Kickstarter: Flix The Flea

Flix is a Flea who lives on a Dog, who in turn lives on an intrepid space-exploring rocket-ship. When his rocket-ship sets down on a seemingly desolate little planetoid, Flix takes the opportunity to do some exploring of his own. And there is the premise of Flix the Flea – a charming little experimental platformer by Psychotic Psoftware.

After taking an unfortunate nosedive into a nearby chasm, Flix is now a lost flea. Utilizing his disproportionately powerful flea-legs, it’s Flix’s mission to escape from a series of deep and foreboding caves, which are inhabited by some ugly, deadly, and very hungry flying reptiles.

But, there is a twist to this charming little Kickstarter. Instead of your traditional run left/right and jump type control scheme, which you would find in any other platformer, you instead only control the power and direction of your jump. Flix uses a left/right control system where jump height depends purely on how long you hold the button for. When you release the button, Flix jumps. Pretty neat, and a different take on the genre.

Psychotic Psoftware is looking for £1,100 to fund Flix the Flea, not a very ambitious amount and you can back for as little as £1. So why not take a look? You can find Flix the Flea on Kickstarter right now.

Managing Editor of ManaPool, Peter lives in York, UK and is a great fan and master of turn-based strategy games. If he isn't playing one of those, you'll probably find him in a role-playing game instead. He's definitely not afraid to provide a straight up opinion on any game and has a strong like for indie developers. We all start small, after all.

What a quirky little game, I wonder if the idea for the game came from a real life incident with fleas. interesting.. :D

Fleas! Ah, I surely hope not. I got a tingle down my spine just thinking about it.

Hiya guys! Thanks very much for checking out my little game. The idea actually came from an 8-bit classic called Bugaboo, which I loved as a kid. Flix started life as my attempt to make Bugaboo exactly as I wanted it to be… then the game just grew from there.
Incidentally, if you’re interested in having a crack at it, it’s out now on Desura and battling its way through Steam Greenlight too!
